The reason for it all
I come from a culture that believes in the saying that it takes a village to raise a child. When I was growing up, I was so many times called back to reason by people that I had never met before and many of which I never saw again. But every time that one saw me doing wrong, they patted me back to the right direction without asking for anything in exchange or being scared/worried of doing so. They did all they could to make sure that I took the right path simply because it was the right thing to do. They felt that it was their responsibility too – not only that of my birth parents – to guide me on the road to success. I owe them a huge part of who I am today, and I am grateful for the countless mistakes they helped me avoid.
Today only, I realize how big of an impact they had on me and on what I am doing with my life. I wish I could repay them personally, but since I don’t know most of these people, I consider it a duty to help others just like they helped me, in the hopes that one day, one of these people who meet my way would look back and feel just the way I feel now and then turn back and do the same for others.
